Persecution:

The word persecution means hostility and discrimination especially on the basis of religion, ethnicity, political views, etc.

Types of persecution: There are several types of persecutions. A few significant ones are:

  • Assassination.

  • Torture.

  • Violence including sexual violence.

  • Arbitrary arrest.

  • False imprisonment.

  • Serious and ongoing forms of discrimination.

  • Unemployment. In many societies, Christians are treated as second class citizens, with some employers making it difficult to hire Christians.

The persecution of Christians is religious persecution that Christians may be subjected to as a consequence of professing their faith. Persecution started with Early Christianity. Christians were persecuted for their faith at the hands of both Jews from whose religion Christianity arose and the Roman Empire which controlled much of the land across which early Christianity was distributed. The custom of persecution prevails till today. Christians are persecuted worldwide on a massive scale.
